Kabul

IMG-3562

You give me your word
and I give you mine,
but someone’s always leaving
and someone’s always left behind.

The heart turns on love
but lovers are blind,
so someone’s always leaving
and someone’s always left behind.

We deal and we barter
our promises bind,
but someone’s always leaving
and someone’s always left behind.

So here’s another airport,
another tragic wave goodbye,
broken hearts and handshakes,
some who stay and some who fly.

There’s need and there’s profit
and when they’re entwined,
someone’s always leaving
and someone’s always left behind.

Complicit, regretful
new treaties are signed,
yet someone’s always leaving
and someone’s always left behind.

And powers too great
are rarely too kind,
expect they’ll be leaving
accept that you’ll be left behind.

So here’s another airport,
another tragic wave goodbye,
broken hearts and handshakes,
some who stay and some who fly.

You give me your word
and I give you mine,
but someone’s always leaving
and someone’s always left behind.

  1. Oh, Kitty, how very sad and how very beautiful. As far away as we are, we cannot help but feel so utterly heartbroken for the Afghani people, their fear, their desperation. Thank you for writing this.
Are the images yours? They are absolutely stunning.

  2. It’s heartbreaking, like Haiti, like wherever people are suffering. Thank you for your great heart and kind words, Jeanne.

Yes, we’ve been enjoying our late summer misty mornings, so I try to get out early for photos and then play with them. 😊

Be safe and well, sweet friend. Xoxo

  3. I know…but I think I would hate it more if it occurred unnoticed or were tolerated with a shrug.

It seems a time of such unrest…I hope it means we’re setting down old ways of responding to conflict and challenges and class, etc. It’s as though we’re in the pain and darkness of a birth canal and can’t afford to lose our way now, and have to keep reminding ourselves that these invitations to change/transform always meet with resistance and regression. The image of the cross also comes to mind, and the continued practice of speaking the truth in love.

If more of us can keep pushing, peacefully, for better methods of relationship to be born, maybe the turmoil will be worth it. We cannot surrender our light to the bellowing and bullying of those who lack the will or clarity to become more compassionate humans. We have to pause and see what they’re really lacking, what we all need to birth, is a greater capacity to love.

Be of good cheer, my friend. Xoxo

  4. This is absolutely beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time. It’s awful seeing such tragic scenes and suffering and terror and being so helpless to do anything much to help. How dark this world can be, you think you’ve seen it all then some sinister shadow suddenly comes into play. Love and hugs to all.xxxx

    1. Oh, my dear, the light and joy and love you put into our world absolutely diminishes the darkness and invites people to do and be their best, too. You give hope to everyone who knows you; you inspire us all. Never think you’re doing nothing to help the world. I know we can’t go to Kabul and make sure every person lands safely in a new life, but we can care for our little corners…and you do, my friend, utterly and beautifully. 💕
